Caddie Story……..

We share with others the sadly modest title of „Caddie“
…People naturally assume that we are mere lackeys,
Sure we carry the bag.… it’s the rest you don’t see
That make us loyal and well prepared Caddies.
We pamper and serve our temperamental golfers
(of course this can turn the sanest bloke bonkers!)

Clean the grip.., search the rough..,
replace the divot.., hell I need lunch.!
Rush to the airport, no time for tea
Where could the next launderette possibly be?
My luggage is jammed full of smelly jocks and socks
If it burst open right now, all near would probably drop!

Lugging a bag of clubs in the blistering heat…
These new trainers are giving me clubbed feet!
Ooh my gosh! he has missed a one foot putt.
If he does it again I’ll kick him in the nuts!
I’ve calculated the yardages and shown him the lay..
All he needs to do is bloody play!

Calm down…I figure ! it’s a job like any other…
Then why so damn depressed you silly slogger !?
Wait..I’ll call home to my loving family,
I’m sure they’ll show some well deserved sympathy.
The kids need socks… the dog is sick, of course she’s mad,
But we’re near missing the cut, and she doesn’t feel bad !!???

So, meet up with some chaps, go down to the pub,
Drown some sorrows and have some grub,
Check out each sad, glad or tired Caddie face,
And realize that for understanding..this is the place.
okay one more chance is all my golfer gets,
This time he treats me better than his pets!!

Off we go on “some” round number three..
Oh hell now he’s gone and hit the damn tree!
Five forty in the morning, its pouring with rain..
What idiot said golf is a stress release game?
The “wrong side” of the draw seriously sucks,
This game is not only skill it needs plenty of luck.!

Squelching around each sodden slippery green,
I need a dry towel to keep the clubs clean.
Mud and wet grass from fairway puddles
We need a miracle to get out of trouble.
Great the sun’s out, first time in two days,
Perhaps we’ll have no more boring rain delays.

My honey called to say she was sorry,
She’s sure we’d make the cut that I shouldn’t worry.
So my heart is lighter, feel positive and stronger
No problem if I have to carry the bag way longer.
Wow… I can’t believe it, he’s holed a few shots
More like that and we could be on top!
We’re in the lead !…this is the fourth round
I’m sure everyone can hear my heart pound!

We’ve won! I squeeze out in an emotional croak
My pupils dilate into hundred pound notes!
I realize as I look at the mud on my shoes
Win or loose this is the best job on the planet to do.
The Caddie secret is to do it with passion
Feel every emotion but don’t make it an obsession.
and when the golfer says “thanks mate ..for standing by me”..
He is probably trying to return me my dignity!

Back we go again to the hotel to pack,
Damn I forgot my toothpaste on the bath rack.
Beg a golfer to share his courtesy car..
Please good fella the airports not far??
The blinking flight is three hours delayed
This dumb movie has already been played.

SA, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore,
Dubai, Qatar, Madeira, Brazil..
Morocco, Spain, France, UK, Germany
Ireland, Scotland, Sweden and Italy,….
This is Caddie life the whole year through,
Ok so is this really the best job to do?
We actually get home on occasion
Wife is excited about a dirty clothes invasion.
Sleep on the sofa twenty hours straight,
And a rare home cooked meal warm on our plate.
A couple of weeks with family and normality,
Then back on course to grueling insanity.

EZ 2000
